I want to suggest some possibilities that might encourage more interest and thus sponsorship. First- the website. I think you should scrap this one (especially if you are going to have to change your hosting provider etc) and move it all onto a simple blogger.com site. It's free and simple.
Secondly- video. Over the last 5 years, video online is everything. If you put a little money into buying a webcam or a video camera (which wouldn't cost too much) and started recording your journey and the trials and tribulations you are experiencing- putting your unique story out there- you'd get more traffic and more interest, I'm certain of it. It's simple enough to upload video to youtube and embed it onto a blog site.
I hope you don't feel this advice is too presumptious. I have a great respect for what you are trying to do, and I wish you all the success you deserve.

Hi, Karl! What a great accomplishment! I'm curious if you have considered dipping down to cross the Suez canal which would be a another continent traveled upon? Of course, traveling the middle east can be tricky.

Hi Karl, been following you for a while now and can't believe the grief you are having in Russia. I wish I could suggest something but I imagine you have tried lots of avenues. The new website is great, much easier to use.I guess you must have had a lot of time on your hands!! Keep going, keep that chin up and you will do it. Just imagine the welcome you'll have when you get back to the UK.

By the way don't let that last comment dishearten you. I hope you get a visa wafer and the russians realise you're not a British spy.
And I agree you don't need an angle. It's a shame that you do like "Greenpeace" or "Make Poverty History". Even though they are worthy causes, why can't one mans dream of walking from South America to North America uninterupted be enough.
I wish I won the lottery today and I'd give you what you need to get past Russia and into saner territories.

I followed this what seems a long time ago now, only 6 years ago. I was studying at school. Now I'm a man.
I got a postcard from Karl when he was in Alaska which I have sadly lost whilst moving house :(. This was all before the russian troubles. And now it seems an absolute farce. It seems a real shame, i think the high security as ruined this once noble mission. But it does seem after several airplanes now that the unbroken path is severly broken.
Such a shame. I wanted to walk the england leg with him. A shame. :(

Reading through the blog the exped sadly seems to be on its last legs! (no pun intended!)What do you actually hope to do for finance, making $10 a day is hardly enough to fund a trip to Tenerife yet alone another 10 years of walking? Why not cut and run back to the UK what with 10 years down and 10 to go, is your son and family not more important than the exped? You go from Russia to Mexico, back to Russia, back to where ever, back to Russia so it doesn't actually seem one continious journey, has the original ethos of the trip now been lost by no progress for months, nearly years? It was a good attempt but seems to have been badly run and mismanaged from it's conception to being put into practice. I can sadly understand why backers and sponsors have pulled out, halfway down with another 10 years to go and no end in sight, unfortunately the 'investors' want the glory/money shots of the finish line and not the halfway pics. When will this endeavour end? Who knows, it has the heart, but will it have the legs? Time will tell.... the odyssey continues!
