This website will cover Karl Bushby’s journey on foot, from the bottom of South America back to the United Kingdom, unassisted by any form of transport.  The 36,000 mile journey lasting 15 years is defined by two self-imposed rules; first, Karl is not allowed to return to the UK until Karl arrive on foot, ensuring a continuous unwavering effort to achieve his goal.  Second; he will be unassisted by any form of transport in order to advance, thereby securing an unbroken footpath.  The journey began on the 1st November 1998 and has covered about 17,000miles to date through Chile, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, across the Darien Gap, throw Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, United States, Canada, Alaska, crossed the Bering Straits into Russia.

I know…I know the updates are few and far between, I apologize.  The Journey is working on two fronts currently, who would have thought walking was so complicated.   First, the journey is gearing up for the return to Russia this coming spring.  This return trip is exciting with only about 40 days before I hit the Road of Bones and leave the Tundra and frozen rivers behind.  This changes everything from my perspective, it’s a game changer, it means year round travel, it means starting to live off the road again, no heavy logistical train.  If we get the visa support we are looking for, I stay on the ground.

The second front is funding this endeavor, I was hoping to be able to deliver good news by now but it looks like that will have to wait a little while longer.  Negotiations are still ongoing in Los Angeles, what happens there really defines long term funding, how the journey shapes up in the public eye, image, communications etc.  However, LA has limited bearing on the overall focus and objective, we roll with it come what may however long it takes, it’s about moving forward, and that will never change.
